Recovering from wisdom teeth during school or work

School

Wisdom teeth removal is typically completed in the morning. You will need to take the day of surgery off from school and the next day as well. Many students choose to have their surgery on a Friday and to return to school on Monday.

Food in a cafeteria is a minefield of chips and straws. Pack yogurt, eggs, mashed anything, and a water bottle you sip — not a fountain you suck.

Work

Remote computer or desk work can be resumed the day after the surgery if you are sedated or the day of the surgery if you were only numbed for the surgery. If you have a job interacting with people face-to-face, please remember that swelling can last anywhere from 3-7 days depending on the extent of the surgery. If your workplace needs a return-to-work note with restrictions, please feel free to ask.
